Speculative Extensions: The Upward Generalization

Read this first — what this page is and is not

Everything on this page is CONJECTURE. It is deliberately separated from the formal physics (which lives on The Formal Theory) because it reaches from particles up to cells, organisms, and minds — the kind of "one law at every scale" sweep that should be quarantined from the technical claims, not mixed with them. None of this is needed for, or evidence for, the formal reconstruction. It is recorded because it was the project's founding intuition and may be a fruitful research direction — not because it is established. If you came for the physics, you already passed it.

The claim

The founding intuition of Interaction Theory was that the same law runs at every scale, because higher Forms interact only through their substrate agents. If a particle is a self-regenerating Form (a self-consistent loop of completions), the conjecture is that a cell, an organism, and an institution are too — the same self-consistency law, on a higher substrate.

What would be scale-free, if the conjecture holds

The self-consistency law. "A Form is a pattern that regenerates the conditions of its own existence" is autopoiesis — and autopoiesis was discovered for living cells (Maturana–Varela), not invented here. That the same law might describe a particle is the conjecture.
Energy as rate of self-maintenance. A particle's completion rate, a cell's metabolic rate, an institution's overhead — the same quantity at different rungs.
Decay as mistuning. A particle's phase failing to close, a cell's homeostasis failing, an institution collapsing — the same failure of self-consistency.
A discrete "allowed-notes" spectrum at every level — the chemical elements, the ~200 cell types, the discrete species, recurrent stable institutions. The conjecture: the discreteness of stable kinds at every scale is one phenomenon, the allowed notes of self-consistency on that rung.

A tentative quantitative prediction: metabolic scaling

Because a Form is, by construction, a nested space-filling network of sub-Forms, and (in the framework) energy is its completion rate while mass is its bound interaction, the architecture is the one that the West–Brown–Enquist account uses to derive Kleiber's law — metabolic rate ∝ mass^¾, with exponent d/(d+1) (¾ for a 3D organism, ⅔ for a surface-bound one, both observed). This is a genuine connection, not a derivation: the framework supplies the architecture that produces the law. It is the one place the upward conjecture touches a measured number.

Why physical spacetime would be special

What does not climb is the bare-qubit representation — the Lorentz group, 3+1 dimensions, spin-½. Those are the bottom level's own allowed note, what you get when the mark is the minimal possible distinction. Higher Forms carry composite marks, so (the conjecture goes) they live in their own richer, higher-dimensional, non-Lorentzian spaces — a cell's state space, a market's configuration space. Only the bottom rung would have the clean geometry, which would be why physical spacetime looks special.

The top of the ladder: awareness — most speculative of all

Awareness is the constitutive act of every interaction in the theory, so it is already everywhere — in the strict technical sense (a registering pole), not a claim that anything feels. The conjecture at the top: a mind is a self-consistent Form whose countless sub-awarenesses are bound into one, and the unity of that mind is the self-consistency itself. This sits beside Integrated Information Theory and adds an ontology (the integrated information would be integrated awareness). It is honest about its limit: it would remove the puzzle of mind-from-dead-matter (there is no dead matter, only interactions with aware poles) but does not claim to solve the hard problem — it relocates it from "matter versus mind" to "integration versus interior." This is the most speculative claim in the entire project and is offered as a direction, nothing more.
